    Default Domino Stop Pins

Started playing around with the Domino yesterday and noticed that the design has changed. The stop pins are no longer and have been replaced with two plastic tabs, I was looking forward to using the pins for alignment as per many demos I have watched on web sites.

Haven't seen a new one, but it appears to me those tabs are spring-loaded and can still be used for alignment?

wow, thats not good I dont think. Are they adjustable? I like the pins because I can cut a small block and drill a hole in it ( to fit over the pin) and use it to plunge a mortise closer to the edge from the standard set distance from the edge. Then you can swap the block to the other pin to keep that exact setting....Interesting development.

based on what I've read elsewhere (or maybe here) the original pins breached a patent held by Maefell (I believe) and used on their duo-doweller

The lugs are supposed to do the same thing but wait for Anthony to chime in.

They are spring loaded and you do get an extra pair which the manual says have a finer tolerance, however the tabs don't fit snugly on the inside corner of an 8mm mortice (the only ones I have tried so far) preventing the classic demo where you can do a whole row of mortices without marking out. You could still do this demo with the cross stop but I like the idea of just being able to do it without an attachment.

That's pretty cool Martrix, you don't need magnets.

Is it too late to take back. Maybe you can find a stockist with "old stock"

If you are really keen to have the original system another possibility is to buy a "spare part" base with the old system.

The cross stops shipped with my unit have the pins. The demo disc shipped with the unit show a machine with pins. The illustration inside the lid shows pins. I am seriously off about this unannounced change in specification.

...and you should be. I wouldn't accept it and some answers need to be forthcoming from Festool pretty soon.

I will be mighty p!$$3d if this boat anchor is responsible for the change. Maybe there has been a fall out between the two company's seeing as though they have "swapped" ideas in the past?
