    Default Domino500 Query

Hi Festool Owners.....I have a query that maybe you can answer before I tackle Festool. Before I go further let me say after 30 years of buying cheap and some not so cheap tools and having them not last I found Festool and never looked back.....excellent quality and performance....

anyhow back during the Melbourne Timber show I purchased the Festool Domino500 combo with two sustainers, one containing dominos and the other the tool......now that I have some free time I opened the sustainers to start learning to use the tool (I know how did I manage to wait this long but I was flat out with work)......so I find that the tool is in there, the cord and the manual but that's it......yet in the picture inside the lid to the sustainer shows that there should be something else in the box.....there is an empty section next to the tool in the plastic moulding......I have a feeling that I should have got other sized bits????

pictures attached........should I have got the extra sized bits or do the Aussie version of the D500 come without them (making the product even more expensive for us Aussies....as always.....as would have to be a separate purchase)????

appreciate feedback before I chase up Carba-Tec who sold it at the show through the Festool rep there.

    cheers

    Hi simops,

When I bought mine way back when, you only got the 8mm cutter with the kit. So you do have to buy the other cutters to have the full set. Have you looked inside the systainer full of dominoes? There might be some in there. Otherwise, it's buy the set. On the bright side, depending on what you're making, I found that I used mainly 5 and 6mm dommies and occasionally 8's I still have the original 10mm tenons that came with the box. So maybe you could just buy the 5 and 6mm cutters to start? And also the 4mm. does come in remarkably useful.

    Hope this helps,

    Regards,

    Rob

Depends on exactly what package you bought.

A lot of people (me included) get the package of machine + box of assorted dominos c/w set of cutters; this sounds like what you were expecting?

If I remember correctly, all the dominos in my box were in sealed bags sitting in the compartments of the systainer, and a small translucent plastic box containing the cutters was in there with them. Mine came complete with the 5,6,8 and 10mm cutters, and I subsequently bought the 4mm cutter to complete the set (4mm dominos are great for mitres on 18mm thick material).

Hi simops - congratulations on your new Domino system.

The Systainer containing the DF-500 has a number of spaces in the insert reserved for cutters and accessories not necessarily included in the purchase of that Systainer. For example, that Systainer with the DF-500 in it should have come with one fence accessory and one 5mm cutter, but the moulding in the Systainer will accomodate more accessories and more cutters. But as you also bought the second Systainer, that one should come with 1060 assorted dominos and a full set of cutters (4, 5, 6, 8, 10mm). These cutters are intended by Festool to be can be placed in the first Systainer along with the DF-500. If you received in your two systainer set at least the following you have got the correct scope of delivery:
    - 1060 assorted dominos.
    - 4, 2x5, 6, 8, 10mm cutters.
    - Fence base accessory.
    - Plug-it cable.
    - Spanner.
    - And the DF-500 of course.

Good to hear. It would have been very frustrating to have everything but the cutters !

I assume you have some kind of vacuum (preferably Festool) to fit your domino?

Enjoy your new toy, it really is a great bit of kit.

Oh -one more thing I forgot.

Things may have changed since I bought my DF-500, but the manual that came with mine was dismal. Matter of fact, I've found most Festool manuals to be pretty basic.

This page has a lot of useful resources that actually show you how to get the best out of the machine:

    The Ultimate Festool Domino Guide

The document by Rick Christopherson (pdf towards the bottom of the list for DF-500) is particularly good - I printed this out, bound it, and keep it in the workshop.

    Cheers

Thanks Mr Bush......I will check that link out as yes the manual is very basic....

BTW a few years ago I decided to replace my power tools with Festool as the tools fell over. I'm in a position now to pay for quality that will hopefully last me out.....
the Domino was my latest acquisition with 4 others before it (although it didn't replace anything per se).......I have the c36E vacuum with boom extension and it is fantastic. I also have the Rotex, the TS55 saw with tracks and the OF1500 router......TS55 and router with the guide track is excellent.....

    cheers
