Festool Domino & eBay
Hi WWF
i am after a DF500 and found the set for sale by an international seller on eBay Australia. Item location is Italy. For $1250 including shipping I can get the full DF500 set which is about $500 less then Sydney Tools.
does anyone have any experience with buying festool from eBay?

I've bought several Festool products, both new and used, on eBay and haven't had a problem. Just be aware that imports over $1000 are subject to import duty/tax - you'll still come out ahead financially. The only potential problem would be if you have a warranty claim in the future; I don't know what Festool's policy is on international purchases, so you should probably look into it if you haven't already.
EDIT: Also make sure that it's shipped registered AND INSURED, Italy is one of those countries where shipping is dodgy; quite a few Ebay sellers either charge extra to ship there or simply won't do it at all.

With import costs and GST of between $170-$190 on the item and probable insurance costs as suggested by elanjacobs and the uncertainty of warranty, are the savings that great? However, I do know how you feel re the bloated prices we have to pay for equipment in Australia.

Also keep in mind that the plug on the power lead is not compliant with Australian standards.

I was thinking of bringing in some items myself and checked with customs. Below is a link worth reading

There was a DF 500 with a systainer domino kit for about $1,000 on gumtree about 20 minutes drive from where I live but I did not have the readies to hand and I passed on it. Needless to,say it did not last long. Sigh! I was watching Mark Spagnolo do some domino joinery and my wife said, why do you not have one of those.... Ha ha!
