    Default Festool HK vs TS55

    Hi Festool freaks!

Im thinking about diving into the Festool world and am looking at the TS55, a dusty and a Domino 500.

I have started a Handyman/carpentry firm and have found myself building decks one minute and renovating kitchen cupboards the next!

The HK55 seems like it could be used as a cross over saw. The fact that it can be used as a circular saw one minute (with its own track) and it fits on the normal TS55 track really suits my style of work.

I had a chat to Dave Stanton from Youtube and he agrees the only downside is the chip breaker the HK does not have vs the TS55. So the cut will have a less cleaner cut on the waste side but otherwise the word cross over is a good word for it!

The other reason I am think HK is that the guide rails on the TS are hellish expensive, so whilst I save the $600 for the 2700mm rail I can use a home made jig in the mean time, could you do that with a TS55?

    Thoughts ? Agree, disagree?

    Cheers

    Bryan

gday Brian I've started using the makita tracks as they're half the price and seem to work just as well. I have both the ts and the hk and they work well with the makita tracks. also if you're doing melamine I find if I do a scoring pas first then a full depth cut I get good results with the hk.

You can always just run the TS55 against a long piece of wood if you can't join a couple of short rails. If you have to buy another short rail get the holey one so that you can get the LR32 kit later.

For joining rails the Makita joiners are better than the Festool ones.

Thanks chaps, I did not know the festool would fit the makita! Interesting! From a plunge cut perspective is the HK as good as the TS55??

The HK can plunge but not as conveniently as the TS55 as it plunges backwards and requires the use of your other hand to retract the blade guard.
