Kapex clamp for holding small jobs
I find the Terminal Clamp on the Kapex excellent, and I purchased a second one so that they're always in position on both sides of the blade. However, clamping small jobs of less than about 200mm length is impossible. I have fooled around with a bridge clamp, and that was "ok", but the job could still move on occasion.
Recently I made a pair of these to fit to the "wings" or Stop Rules of the Kapex.
The hold downs are just M6 threads with wing nuts going into a couple of feet made from UHMW plastic. There are a couple of auxiliary positions, but I haven't actually had cause to use them yet. The whole clamp can be moved along via sliding the Stop Rule.
The holding force of these little feet is astonishing! Makes cutting even very small parts very safe:
Before the cut - note the sacrificial piece of MDF strip placed across the gap so I can still position the job square against the fence.
After the cut, and the MDF strip is also a bit shorter now:
I may consider buying a couple of extra Stop Rules to save taking the clamps on and off - except so far, I've just left them on, and when not required I just take out the whole Stop Rule/Clamp and hang it on the wall.
Not sure if this tip is old hat or not, but to get rid of the terrible action of the Stop Rules sliding and Terminal Clamps rotating (alum on alum is bad news) just wax them up every now and then.
Cheers
FF

Great tip Brett. I've been wondering about something along those lines.
Thanks for sharing.
