Well i got out to the shed today to have a look, the tube is 35mm with a 32mm internal insert, this is with a tape measure, my digital callipers are somewhere in a removalist box... but which box

Not much in the way of 32mm threaded tube inserts out there, or expanding collets.

The height from the floor to the lower rail is 250mm, so in theory it can be done.

Although the VL CMS extension legs both have level adjustors and the MFT 3 has 1 as well, and it looks a pita to try and get it out.

I'm going to explore my old idea of making a steel frame on castors and utilise the same holes that the legs mount on too.

It also allows me to sell it with the standard legs in the future if i decide i no longer need it, i doubt i will, but the option is there.

Fallshaw have expanding tube ends to suit 35mm OD with 1.6mm wall thickness, they're a nylon thread but are strong enough for what you use an MFT for. Takes an M10 pintle bolt which allows a good choice of castors.

Castors will not work properly if they are mounted in a leg which is splayed out.

They have to be used in a vertical tube and the Festool legs are all splayed so to get the castors to track properly you have to bend the end of the leg into a vertical position.

The best solution is to fold up the legs and build a new base to fit under the MFT3/VL at the height that you require. You can then add castors and tool storage as you require.

Good point, swivel castors need the kingpin to be vertical. But there is another way, using wheels from Rotacaster. But these lack brake and steer lock. Still, an interesting option in the right circumstance, and Aussie invented and made not far from me.
