OF1010 router
I have finally bought a Festool router, this was only matter of time, I was not sure if I should go for the 1400 because 1010 can only do 1/4" bit.
My last router was something that I cant remember and it was not easy to use - maybe due to weight or balance?
I am so surprised the maneuverability of the OF1010 when under load. light and nimble but balanced, dust extraction is great too.
I dont have a bench so I am working on my machines (either JP combo or my panel saw - old habit from my combi machine) or on the floor for glue ups.

'tis a very nice little router indeed. Bit pricey new - I remember missing out on buying a used one a few years ago (that'll teach me to dither around when I see a bargain....).

They’re nice routers, I got the OF1400 and it always impresses me when I use it. Very smooth and quiet.

Thanks for posting this Albert!
I'm currently dithering between the 1010 and the 1400 - I'm liable to go the 1400 as having both 1/2" and 1/2" will be something I'm likely to want... Groeneaj, may I ask how you find the 1400 for manoeuvrability please?
It *looks* a bit bigger, and clumsier, than the 1010...

I don’t find the 1400 to be big or clumsy when in use, in fact I find it to be the opposite. It moves well and feels very comfortable. I used to have the older 1010 , but from memory I sold it as I wanted something bigger.
It all depends on what you’re doing with it. Just go to your local dealer and try them both out.

I also have the 1010. Dust extraction is great in the right circumstances. Biggest problem I have is seeing the bit when working with lines, eg hinge rebate. Putting the dust extraction hose on is a chore, but might be better now that Festool has made some modifications to their hose ends.
I have both 1/4" and 8mm collets and bits, primarily using the 8mm. 1/2" would be nice for some bits that I can only dream of at the moment.
I only use the 1010 in the hand as I do not have a table and have done every thing I wanted to do.

Thank you for sharing your impressions
Going to a local dealer and trying them out is a good idea, I just don't know if that's a possibility where I am (the only dealers I know of within 1hr drive are Sydney Tools, and both of those locations don't really seem to offer a "try before you buy" type service - or at least, it doesn't look like it from their stores).

All good
There are a few factors for me to choose 1010, here are a few:
1. I havnt used router for 10 years and my last router was in 2008, used once and gone. never liked router so didnt want to get something too big.
2. There are many 1400 around on the second hand market. if I ever need one. just buy it
3. I have a spindle moulder, for larger cut, I just use the spindle moulder. The spindle moulder is a pain to setup but it will get replaced in a couple of years.
4. I need the tool to be light cos I will be on it all day when I need it, my cordless drill is 10 v... this should tell you something
I have used the OF1010 on a job now, as Handyjack pointed out, you cant see the lines when working with it. but I am working around it. Some say you can use one hand to control the 1010. I am not sure if I want to try that.... you are holding a tool thats spinning at 20,000rpm.
1400 is 4.5kg, 1010 is 2.7kg, when you need to push it and working with it, you can feel the weight. I gave it a go and immediately thought 1010 is more suitable for my needs.SCM L'Invincibile si X, SCM L'Invincibile S7, SCM TI 145EP, SCM Sandya Win 630, Masterwood OMB1V, Meber 600, Delta RJ42, Nederman S750, Chicago Pneumatics CPRS10500, Ceccato CDX12
