You don't really need a Domino, you've got by so far without one but you really need this lens. Especially the IS variant.
How much extra $ is the IS? It's an extra 160g but I think it would be worth it.
    That extra 160g costs $980

The biggest work out I gave my lens was the 2011 Stampede parade. ~1500 photos in ~90 minutes or one every 3.6 secs. No burst photos.
in the previous year I took ~750 photos in the same period of time. Interestingly I got about the same numbers of "good" shots on both occasions.

I can take upwards of 300 during a game of hockey
and about 120 ish over 110m hurdles (that is of course on burst, ie finger on button for the whole 15s)

Hi Nick, have you considered the Tamron 70-200 ? I'm a Nikon shooter, so more familiar with Nikon than Canon, but the Tamron is about half the price of the Nikon for similar performance.

Thanks for muddying the waters a bit more

Had a Tamron zoom with my minolta gear years ago and it was a brilliant lens.
had heard though that there had been a bit of a quality drop off
seems that I was wrong or they've again lifted their game

So I did a bit of a google search and came up with this...

    Kai Wong of DigitalRev:
“For sure, if you want the best overall lens, go for the Canon. It is the complete overall package of sharpness, performance, and bokehliciousness,” he says. “But what a Tamron represents is nothing to be ashamed of. It has 95% of what the Canon has to offer for 1/3 of the price less of the Canon, which all sounds… sensible. But lens choices aren’t always about being sensible.”
    regards

It's like being asked to choose between your children.

But wait.... I know, sell the children.

I wouldn't get much and if there was a money back guarantee they'd be sent back as soon as it was worked out how much they ate!

    Ok

finally made a decision and picked up the lens
the decision was made easier due to the fact that the Men's Shed got a domino via a grants award

anyway even then I procrastinated for a while on whether I really wanted it - in the end the bling factor won

I am super impressed with the quality of the glass. The zoom method is different from the other big lens but I'm a happy chap

here's a piccy of my young chap doing backstroke a couple of weeks ago

BTW the Domino is a beautiful machine and a joy to use - If I was starting out in my woodworking journey I'd get one
