Default Newest test centre up and running.

There is a new Festool Test Center in Melbourne!

Having distributed Triton in Japan for many years (Hence the name) and then worked for Festool for three and Total Tools for 2 years, I have been given the keys (literally) to Melbourne's newest test centre.

Based at Total Tools in Mitcham, the franchisees have kindly let me set up a section of the store as a Festool area. In Festool terms, we are a Partner Plus, which is one step under a Premium Shop. This means that we will not carry as extensive range as the teams at the Tool House or Just Tools. It does however mean that we have one of the most extensive Festool ranges in Melbourne.

One of the frustrations I often heard from customers while working with both Triton and Festool was stores not carrying the accessories. To this end, we have made a point of carrying a lot of the accessories needed for the tools we sell.

As for consumables, sand paper etc, also making an effort to be well stocked with these. Whenever I get asked for a type we don't carry, am adding that to the stock lines.

There are few, if any Festool outlets in Melbourne where you can see both the CS50 and CS70 table saws side by side. Both Kapex saws are on display as well.

Finally, the highlight for me is the test centre. Now you can try a tool before you buy. It is one thing to be told the ETS-EC is a smooth thing to use, it is another to fire it up and do some sanding. Over time, the test centre will likely grow however for now we have Rotex, ETS-EC 150/5, PDC18, small planer, TS55R, one of the jig saws, OF1400, hammer drill and the LR32 system. Oh and the CT26 of course.

The Festool reps will be in-store this Wednesday night for our Insiders night, which in Total Tools talk is sale, however as we all know there is no discounting of Festool.

March 4 we will be holding a Festool specific event from 10 till 1:00 where you are invited to come down, have a play, ask questions and give feedback on what you would like to see.

Naturally you are welcome in-store any time. If you do come in, ask for Steve.

    Cheers for now!

    Wishing you all the best.
The pleasure of not working in piles of saw dust and shavings is one of the pleasures of using the Festool system.

Nice work. I might have to resume making trips to Melbourne just to have a look. That will be dangerous though, as I always seem to buy something.

I have a support question for you as an introductory activity for you in your new role Do the old systainers lock down to the new trolley? I know there are some festo owners getting rid of there old systainers and replacing them with the T Loc's. I don't mind my old ones, so I am interested in still being able to trolley them around. Thanks.

    Squirrel+Nuts,

Short answer is yes. There are three types of roller boards and trolleys I know of, not including the extractors. Each use the nibs at the bottom of the systainer from the old style systainer to secure them in place. T-loc systainers have these nibs too.

Means you can secure new T-loc systainers to the top of the old ones, but not the other way around.

If you find that the latches get a bit stiff as the systainers get older, by scraping a smidge of plastic off the sides of the latches, they will work with a lot less effort.

    Hope this helps.

    Steve

    Steve,

    Thanks heaps for the advice.

I notice the trolleys are on special at the mo. Might pick a few up before the end of march.

Good luck with the new venture. Hope it goes well.
