Murray River Paddle Steamer
Hi all,
Only fair I should post failures as well as success.
I thinks ill stick to curves.
This is one of two boxes I was working on simultaneously like. I ran out of time as the person it was destined for was moving to WA. I had planned on pyro working some details like windows and such but that never eventuated.
I wanted a challenge, and the stepped in edge certainly made things difficult. Also I m just going to have to get a smaller blade. Having difficulty with tight bends.
She loves the river and paddle steamers and thats what prompted me to try the translation to bandsaw box. Used another piece of my reclaimed wood. She was ecstatic and I just kept my frown hidden.

bandsaw box
Nice work what size blade are you using. ibrought a carter guide and using 6tpi @1/4 it alows me to turn sharper corners and not much burning and less sanding which is a bonus.
regards john.

thanks for the comments guys,
Hi John,
Im using a 1/4 6 tpi also. I made a carter like block and bearing. It might not be as good as the real thing. Best I can cut is a 20mm 7/8" circle, 30mm is a much safer bet tho.
Looking at her stern the two draws got very close. At one point I was sure it was going to break thru when cutting the sterns bottom corner of the top draw.
Maybe its just more practice
Im much happier with the 2nd of the two, photos of that coming soon. Its of a celtic stone cross. More curves but not very symmetrical (ie not very well cut) which as it turned out gives it a medieval feel.
Was quite happy with it tho as its all one cut and has 7 draws

Hi Xgrain, Those stepped back bottom drawers might have been a pain, but are what makes this box. They are a great idea and very original. Cheers Harry

hi xgrain, I really like the the square corners and the drawer layout on this one, gives it a unique style. Will be looking for your next one. Nice work.
Also, the drawer pulls - neat idea.
