Out of the Shadows
Its been a while between bandsaw boxes unfortunately ..... Nov 2011 (https://www.woodworkforums.com/f60/wip-redgum-bandsaw-box-picture-heavy-143309)
Anyway I am not sure if I should call this one "Out of the Shadows" or "Hand of Le Corbusier Man" (http://www.wordsinspace.net/media-ar...er_modular.jpg)
Out of the shadows perhaps, as I have finally decided to put the Lois Ventura book, Building Beautiful Boxes with Your Band Saw, behind me and start working on some more custom designs. For years I have been sketching some ideas for new boxes, influenced by other work I have seen on the internet and also other shapes that I thought would look good incorporated into a box design (like the hand of Le Corbusier Man). I thought it was about time to experiment a little and see what comes out.
In the past few years I have taken a few whittling classes by the forums own "Whittling" and whilst I may not pursue a career in whittling I was interested to incorporate some of these 3d skills into bandsaw boxes. So with this box I was a little more free form in a 3d profile than the examples shown in Lois Ventura's book. It was actually quite liberating and enjoyable to see what was going to happen with the little fear that it could all go wrong with one wrong cut.
As for the timber I was just using up some off cuts. I would expect that it is cedar, pine and tassie oak. It certainly made working much easier than the last red gum box. I am still trying to get the best shots from the new camera but I thought these would do for now.
Cheers
Stinky.

Very artistic Stinky!!! I like the look.
Jewllery in the draw and silk scarves draped over the horns. Very useful.
