a short note to say thanks Phil and thanks Marko.

Comments above about how well we were fed are all spot on - highlight for me was the bagels filled with salmon and creamy cheesy stuff and dill on day 2. That's now on the list of things to have a go at to prove to my Mrs that I can be trusted to prepare lunch.

and as an added bonus learned how to use a scraper, learned to not freak out about the low bits.................... and what the blue stuff is for.

..... here is a picture of me showing Marko how to use one of those electric thingies ..............

    Default Class Thanks

Just to add my comments to a most informative 2 days of hard yakka and good group of guys. Even after watching a number of videos on scraping there is no substitute for learning the tips and tricks of the trade from the masters in the profession, thanks Phil and Marco for the undertaking to open up your shop and the time taken away from other duites and family.
Enjoy the Australia Day break. All the best, Alan.

I just had a play with the dremel and a cheap diamond wheel and some mild steel and achieved this, measured "scrape" depth is 0.01mm or less... It is slower then hand scraping for roughing, but easier for finishing..

I think it is an awesome result, the art of scraping is in my opinion where to scrape and how much to take off, the actual method used to remove material is secondary.. I look at methods like this ideal for the home shop person with limited materials on their hands.. We all know how hard it is to get cast iron these days, while harder steels are very easy to get, the exact opposite to fifty years ago...

Looks like they have put oil relief on the hardened ways and worked the cast saddle to suit, best for longevity I guess. Thanks again to Phil & Marko for taking the time to provide an excellent, informative and well fed course!

Any names or forum names to go with the faces? Or are they all in various witness protection programmes?

Well it's been a week now and I think my arm and shoulder have recovered. What a top 2 days, bloody Marko what a legend, No harder deeper come on. Phil, I don't think most would know how much he puts in in the back ground. 2 Top mentors. Great group doing the course, my only grip is bloody Phil fed us to the extreme.Sat night I put my block down and the fam went ok what is it, the smile and somewhat blue Smurf print on my hands was my answer.
Much the same at work where. My block now sits, a talking point.
Went to a party on Sat, one of our friends works at a site where Phil and Marko have reconditioned gear. Small world.
Cheers Bruce I have on an orange T shirt, Marko is passing on words of wisdom.
    PS
Thanks to Phil Steamwisperer for taking the time to call by and take some pics and have a chat. Looking forward to the tour at his work.
