Can anyone in Adelaide make a fire guard?
Just wondering if there is anyone out there who could knock together a fireguard. Just a fairly simple arrangement with a hinged door front. Please see Pdf attached.
The sizes are loose but can be firmed up later. I see it a wrought iron frame with wire mesh covering. The clasp could just be a fold down hinged fixing or even just a hook and eye arrangement.
Height would be around 700 or 800mm
I just need to keep a 2 year old away from our burner this winter.
.
If any one in Adelaide would like to give me a quote i would love to hear from you.
Cheers

Hi kaiser,
You should be able to find a local wrought iron worker to do the job, like this guy:
http://www.hammerart.com.au/technical_and_about.html
although it may turn out to be a bit elaborate! Does nice work though.
Failing that, a mate with a welder; buy some 10x10mm square mild steel with the mesh; and get in there with a hacksaw!
I knocked up this one ... got away on me a bit, and have modified it twice, once when we moved house and had to fit it into this corner hearth. The hardest thing I found was tacking on the mesh so it doesn't blow away with the weld.
They are a great relief when you have little ones wandering about.

Thanks Andy Mac
That hammer art is fantastic, what a great job to have. I'll bet hes expensive.
Your own guard is really impressive. Beautiful work. was that cold steel bending? I saw a bloke at the woodwork show last year making something just with some bendy type tools, no heat. I do know a bloke with a welder, maybe I could get help to put it all together.
(This would be project # 68 on my list of things to do!).
Thanks again for your input.

Just a quick question Andy Mac. Is the edge of your mesh tacked on to the frame then covered with a further steel strip? To cover the sharp cut mesh edges is my guess.
thanks

Hi Kaiser,
Yes, the scrolls were bent cold as its only thin flat bar, using a combination of scroll jig and scrolling fork. The latter is pretty simple, I should post a 'How to' on that.
And the mesh can be a tad sharp, but I haven't covered it with a strip, just hammered it flat after welding and run a file across it to remove the worst of it. The mesh is below the top lip of the frame, with welds about 50mm apart.
Cheers,Andy Mac
