    Hi David,

No I don't have that option either ! It seems to me to be Google's way of forcing membership...
I've noticed that a lot of the Ebooks that you used to be able to simply download are no longer available without having to go to Google and search for them only to find that they have either to be purchased or signed into Google for.

I was signed into Google and I did not have the download option.

You will notice some changes to Google and all its other sites over the next couple of years. As per heading, they have now changed gears and are aiming at what they set out to do. Separate suckers from their money. It will be a slow, steady introduction to avoid too much shock for their customers.

Google is not the only one. It has already happened to Amazon, although they were more commercial to start with.

I read yesterday that Yahoo is going to slowly remove login ability via Google accounts, so you will have to sign up to Yahoo. I don't know anything about this process because I have never used Yahoo, so I am just reporting what I read on Reuters News. Apparently there is a link to use your Google A/C details for access.

Did some research and found that is due to copyright laws. Google only allows access to pre 1880 work if you live outside the US. In the us they go up to the late 20's at least.
Interesting question is why oohsam has access to the download link assuming he is in Australia?
Tried using a web proxy based in the US and I can download the book.

    Hey Dave,

Is it difficult to use a "web proxy based in the US" - can anybody do it or are you logging into a remote personal machine to do it ?

I just googled free web proxy.
The one I used was called kproxy but only allowed 3mb download.
Will have to research and find one without limits.

I initially had no download option when following oohsam s instructions either, and searched Googles book lists for the book, and when I eventually found it, I was able to download it from there. Problem is I can't remember exactly how I did it, so I might just try and download other out of copyright books, being more careful to document my method and post back here. Interestingly I am pretty sure I was downloading a pdf file, but when Adobe Reader tried to open it I got an error message saying that the file may have been corrupted during the download process and Adobe Reader could not open it. When I looked at the Downloads list, I had two versions present, a mobi file and a pdf file. I clicked on the pdf file and A.R opened it straight away. It is a 35MB file and too big to upload here, and the mobi file is only 3.7MB, but the .mobi file format is not supported on this forum, so can't be uploaded. The pdf file is like a reasonable ocr interpretation, that is it has errors at times, but for the most part is quite readable and useful.
I would suggest that anyone really wanting the download, keep trying, look for google booklists, and look for out of copyright titles, and eventually you should get there. If there are a few people who just can't get it to work, I could try downloading my pdf file to a memory stick, and send it to one of you who could pass it on when you had copied it over. In the meantime I will try to rediscover my method, and pass that on when and if I can repeat the effort.
    Rob.
