    Default Another "what is it""????????

    Started to bring home some of the lighter bits and pieces of horizontal mill ( maybe a pallas)
    the dear old lady gave me this thing that she insisted was part of it
    ive go no idea what it is
    about 190 mm long hollow but inside takes the same shape as the outside
    a bakelite plug (big plug has 1944 T EWT 1.6 no 1 IE stamped on it)IMG_0263.JPGIMG_0260.JPGIMG_0264.JPGIMG_0265.JPGIMG_0266.JPG both ends the small end is left hand thread
    a copper band at about the bottom of the hollowed out section.

    Looks like an artillery shell, with the copper driving band... what calibre mill was it from?

    My guess would be 57mm, the markings suggest it's a 6 pounder 7cwt anti-tank projectile (Ordnance QF 6-pounder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

    bluddy ell lucky i looked inside it its empty and yes the steel part is 56.7mm in diam so the nasty bits were added before they were fired
    thanks guys well now i know its not a mill part,,, damn i thought i was onto something rare
    well back to cleaning the mill vice
