Auction label removal
Does anyone know of an easy way to remove those horrible labels auction houses put on items. They are impossible to remove ( which is obviously the idea) but surely there is something that can remove the glue without damaging the paint underneath.
Thoughts anyone?
Many thanks
Mark

Oomph
The better half works in a library and has the problem of sticky labels, chewy and other unmentionables on books, benches, shelves, chairs etc.
She used to use Eucalyptus oil but recently came home singing the praises of a substance called "Oomph"... "Goo and Stain remover" seems to be a citrus based substance and it is the bees knee.
It comes in a 500ml spray bottle .. blue background yellow highlights, red "Oomph" made by Pascoe's a WA company 1800 065 326. (I have no links to the company)Last edited by HavinaGo; 6th May 2015 at 10:33 PM. Reason: web site not active so replaced with phone number

Hi Mark,
As David has said in his reply the product "Oomph" works very well and you can get it from your local supermarket.
I have used it and work well at getting glue off.

WD40 seems to work on just about everything.
I have metho, turps, acetone and cellulose thinners but WD40 is the first thing I go for.

Hot air blower - low setting (borrow SWMBO's hair drier if you dare)
This will soften the adhesive & the labels generally peel off.
(Also works on Jiffy bags so they can be re-used)
This only works with 'fresh' labels. Once the adhesive has gone hard, solvents are the only way to shift them.

NB. I worked as a Museum Conservator for 35 years & wish I had £1 for every hour I spent removing sello / drafting / gaffa and numerous other self adhesive tapes that had been used for repairs. What you say & what people hear are not always the same thing.

+1 on Euc Oil. I used it yesterday to remove Velcro adhesive from scissors. If it will dissolve that, then it should work on tough labels.
Acetone may also be worth a try.

My sequence is usually Methylated spirits, Turps, Acetone (always test on an inconspicuous part first, particularly on plastics), Eucalyptus Oil.
