    Default Tough Drill spare parts

A friend of mine has this little Tough drill and it has a broken return clock spring. Can anyone help with a lead on where a replacement could be found. The drill is only a small bench top model and does not have any model number shown. A few pictures to help identify it.

I have the same drill press and when my clock spring broke I used a coil spring on the depth stop as a short-term fix - 15 years on and it's still there. Alternatively you could run a line from the depth stop over a couple of pulleys to a weight hanging down the back of the drill press.

    Bob,

My memory isn't flash but I think the outer end of the spring in mine had broken off and I bent the end of the spring to fit the slot in the cover cap. It too had a coil spring serving as a return spring. Where is your friend's spring broken?

PS and then there's always eBay - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replacement-...item485a9cca16

    Gavin & Bob,
Thanks for the quick reply's. Bob your drill really looks better than new, my friends spring broke on the inside fitting about two inches from the end, they have a little rolled end formed on them to drop into the spindle. I will have to collect all of the parts from him and measure it up, I would like to repair it back to original if possible. They are a very well made little machine.

There is a member on this forum called "Norm" who currently owns what remains of Tough, he says he still has a lot of parts and the materials and ability to make parts if required.

I cocked up the colour Bob. It probably should have been silver. They are wonderful little drills. If I had a way of getting the drill to Melbourne I'd give it to my daughter. She would treasure it as I do.

Spring makers will normally make something like that up for a reasonable price, in Adelaide I would go to http://www.industrialsprings.com.au/

When I was looking for one, I went to ebay but I was told you can pinch one out of a vacuum cleaner if you have a hard rubbish collection soon.

Thanks to all for your help. I have sent a PM to "Norm" inquiring about spare parts -thanks BobL for the link. I had my mate drop the broken parts in so that I could measure them and also took a couple of photos to post, but unfortunately my computer has decided not to recognise my camera.
