If you want to join the pedantic club, its impedance. That is the overall "resistance" to the flow of current, consisting of resistance, capacitance and inductance. I know, I did funway electronics 3.

Reluctance is magnetic resistance. i.e. resistance in the magnetic circuit rather than the electric circuit.
The relays have variable reluctance (i.e. it is different when open and closed) - hence variable inductance - and variable AC current.
This is a fun thread.

I couldn't find my funway electronics 3 notes...
But since joining the pendant's (pedant's club, if you want to be pedantic, and not get hung around someone's neck) club, it's reactance. (which can be capacitative or inductive)
Impedance is the vector sum of resistance and reactance. According to my copy of Bleaney & Bleaney.

Ray

Thanks for agreeing with me Ray that the coil has resistance. So the load displayed is exactly as above, per Bleaney & Bleaney.

Who was it that said something along these lines?
I do not wish to join a club that would have me as a member
Ah, found it

The attached pic is a extract from http://www.mitsubishielectric.com.au...ember_2007.pdf
As can be seen, the S-N18 is the correct contactor for 'jogging' a 2.2kW 3 phase motor.“I do not think there is any thrill that can go through the human heart like that felt by the inventor as he sees some creation of the brain unfolding to success... Such emotions make a man forget food, sleep, friends, love, everything.” - Nikola Tesla.

yes the SN18 would do the job but I dont have an 18...only had the 10 and 21..
RC wanted the 10... in any event it will probably give many years of service
