SAJ VSD problems

I have recently got a 1.5KW SAJ VSD to run my lathe.

I havent powered it up yet, still muddling through how to hook up the controls. I am having trouble with how to hook up an external frequency setting pot.

I have sent an Email to the Ebay seller that I got it from asking for advice, still waiting for a reply.

The manual covers all the different size models in their range, it shows how for the bigger ones, but not for the size I have.
On page 22 of the manual is the wiring diagram, and page 17 has pictures of the terminal strips, figure 3.7 shows the terminal stip on my unit, its missing the D1, and ACM terminals which are used on the larger unit for the remote pot.

Would it be terminals C1, FM and V1?

My terminal strip doesnt have a FM , there is an AM ( OK, just checked the manual, AM has the same function as the FM terminal on the larger units )
Its description is - analog voltage output 0 - 10V.

Mine has the 10V terminal, which is for pot. power supply 10V dc.

Another problem is the manual doesnt specify what size pot. is needed.

Ironwood, you already have the potentiometer on your front panel, you can either use that (the front panel can be removed and mounted somewhere else) or (hopefully) the pot is marked.

I would think it will be a 10K pot, but I could be wrong.

If all else fails, put your multimeter across the existing pot and measure the max resistance.

Cheers Fred, I havent pulled the front panel off yet, your right the pot could be marked.

I want to get away from using the small front panel if possible. the panel with the knob and switches is only about 35 x 70 mm , and the swiches are small and too close together for my liking.
I would rather build a bigger and more user friendly panel that can be mounted on the lathe.

Hopefully the supplier will come through with the info I need. Still waiting for a reply back.

Hi Brad,

Pelase have a look at page 17, figure 3.7

Terminal VI(analog input) & DCM(common) will be connected to your potentiometer.

I am not sure about this, in the manual, the DCM terminal is described as 24V digital signal common.

I just had a look at the pot on the front panel. Unfortunately its not marked.
It has 3 terminals, I'll call them 1,2 &3 for now, using a meter across 1 & 2 it is up to 4.83 k , across 2 & 3 it is also 4.83 k. Does this make it a 5 k pot ?

So if I use the 10V & the V1, one more terminal is needed. If mine had the ACM terminal, I would think that would be the one.

Got another Email back from the supplier, its getting a bit clearer now.

DCM is the common for 24V and also the potentiometer. You use 10V, VI and DCM with pot.

I don’t know what size pot you need. It is just for an analog input, any pot will be Ok.
