    Default Buttweld Fittings

I went to Blackwoods on Fri to get some buttweld fittings (a couple of 1-1/2" to 1" concentric reducers to be precise). Had to take the afternoon off work because Blackwoods aren't open on Sat. When I got there I was told that they don't have them on the shelf, they are an order-in item and that it would take 8 days to get them in. Guess I should have rang before I went to all that effort! To add to my pain the East Link tolls to get there were double because the BT-50 is a light commercial vehicle.

Does anyone know of an alternative supplier for buttweld fittings around the eastern suburbs of Melbourne (Ringwood)?

    Thanks,

    Grant

Last time I got some buttweld fittings when Blackwoods didn't have stock I went to Onesteel which had them in stock.
    Onesteel isn't far from Blackwoods.
They don't hold stock of all sizes so best to ring them first.

    Default Blackwoods will deliver free

    Hi Grant,

If you set up a web account with Blackwoods, you can order online, find out stock position etc. then they will deliver to wherever (maybe to work reception) and delivery is free, normally early next day - doesn't matter if the item is $2

No good for this time - but beats driving to their place

Blackwoods - Do they ever have anything in stock? Between their everything is out of stock, their "We won't tell you the price in the catalogue, it's a secret" (and it's double what you can get it for from anywhere else) approach to pricing - why would you bother?

Well said. Every time I go there for anything they offer to get it in for me.
    I've given up.

Default Blackwoods are not so bad really

I've had good luck with them. Their pricing is all over the place, some things cheaper than eBay to others ridiculously expensive, in fact mostly on the expensive side. But you can check the prices if you log in and decide from there.

You can also see the stock availability, if it goes on back-order they send out the courier again, still no charge. I've had them make deliveries for single items like a $4 nipple or a similar priced bit of silver steel

I guess they make up the delivery costs with their prices

I've found them pretty good with stock availability, better than the branches would be because web orders are supplied from their central warehouse.

Anyway I'm happy to use people like Blackwoods and RS components judiciously. I'm not interested in driving all round town to pick up things I can buy online with next day delivery, the little extra in price is often more than offset by time and petrol

It's easy to register with them, no ABN or credit application required - give em a whirl, it's free till you place an order

Below the item in question - not in stock till 4/8/15 but you don't need to drive there to find out

Default They must be charging delivery now - recent change or account type / area ?

If you look at my previous post, the order in my shopping cart just a few minutes ago had $0.00 for delivery.

I'm hardly a high volume customer, just occasional odds and ends

In fact I just changed the order and there's still no delivery charge (see below) - I didn't select pickup, it's to my home address

Are you outside the metro area perhaps ?

How about going direct to the source? http://www.aapindustries.com.au/

If you only want a couple there might be a BBQ fund you can contribute to...

Couldn't find out how to get free postage from Blackwoods for orders under $100 - if anyone knows how I am interested!!

Managed to get the reducers at Reece Plumbing - price about the same and they had them in stock. Thanks for the suggestions.
