Buying engine parts
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on why parts people always ask what year / model vehicle an engine is associated with.
I always go by the engine make , eg Caterpiller , Komatsu , then type of equipment , followed lastly by year.
Possibly because I dont worry about finer details , because if a piece of equipment requires a repower , just find something that will fit and work.
The idea of sticking to OEM is not something that I follow, because if a customer or myself want a machine to work reliably then make any changes to increase power to stop stalling under load for example or the original motor was noted for its problems.
