Thread: Captain 16

These seem to be a much copied design.
I have a Hafco badged one. Others: Jet, Liang Fen, Stebbins, Royco, Sealey.
Great Captain was made in Japan by Murahashi Mfg Co. Other ones seem to be Taiwan made.
I guess your Captain 16 is related to the Great Captain?

I cut longer blades down with angle grinder, drill new hole with sharpened masonary drill.

This is my unbranded version of that style of 16" power hacksaw. Due to the declining numbers of power hacksaws in use, blades are harder but not impossible to locate, and as always, scarcity drives up the price.

The last few blades I have bought were via ebay. Back up plan if I ever need to, is to buy a length of steel cutting bandsaw blade and make it into hacksaw blades.

Size 1000 x 300 x 700H and a surprising 140kg.

If you're asking because you've seen the Gumtree advert for the $75 one in Adelaide, I emailed the seller about 5 days ago asking a question and never got a response.

This is a Herless , but the same saws are seen with many different brands . I paid $50 for it at a swap meet . The tag says "made in Taiwan "

True story. 5 or 6 years ago while setting up at Toowoomba swap meet which has 1800 odd sites, a ute carrying what is now my band saw pulls into the site next to mine. If that is not a sign from above I don't know what is. $110.

The lump of steel is 5" x 4" of A36

Quite often you see power hacksaws for give away prices, funny thing though, they're never anywhere near me. Like casjon I was thinking about the Captain, but blades are a bit of a worry.

I buy 2 packs of 12 blades every time I'm in Melbourne. If you need Derek to post them for you
you need to purchase a minimum of 24 blades (2 packs) they are 17" long. As mentioned above, if you need them shorter just cut them down with an angle grinder and drill a new hole with a sharpened masonry drill bit.
The blades are an American made blade and are of excellent quality, And he has a never ending supply.
Don't forget to tell him I referred you. It gets me brownie points
