    Default Castrol stick wax

    Hi

    One of my books recommends this stuff for tapping and other cutting metal jobs . The data sheet suggests that its nothing more than parrafin wax eg surf board wax ?

    Looks pretty limited in it's application.

    How could that stuff possibly work with spring washers, which most high tensile bolts have?

    It probably is surfboard wax at 20 times the price.

    Probably the same as the old wax lube sticks they used for car door striker plates on locks back in the 70's.

    That's all silicon now, so Castrol probably looking for another way to unload the stuff.

    Another lubricant for uniform tensioning of fasteners is petrolatum (petroleum jelly) and graphite. Juding by the graph below using the combo triples the bolt tension for a given torque compared to an unlubed clean nut and bolt:
