Wanted: Cheap 20mm steel tube
Hi guys, I'm looking at making a run of garden tidy bad frames which is basically 12mm reo squares 75cm by 75cm separated by two 120 cm tube uprights. I'm looking for suggestions for suppliers of cheap steel tubes either round or RHS. I'll be buying a few lengths so freighting it up from down south may be practical compared with local buying.
I'd also be keen to know capital city prices for say 20x20mm x1.6mm RHS if anyone bought some recently.
TIA
Mark

20x20x1.6 is about $28 a length.
Scott Metals - Products: Painted RHS and SHS Tube
Someone else here posted the link above for price references, it comes in handy when im planning for a project.
But I know Onesteel also have a budget line ozsteel or something like that it was once called aggsteel, which is cheaper but has a limited range.

SteelSolutions
In Melbourne $18.07, Pretty sure they would go cheaper if you were buying a lot.

Ok that's interesting, I bought a length of 25x25x3 last week for $29.97 locally. I heard that with a new steel shop coming to town, the competitors are trying to flood the market beforehand with cheap bulk steel so may have ring around Monday.
Stu: Thanks, that's more in line with what I'm after.
Edit: This is probably asking for trouble but if I extrapolate Steel Solutions prices for 25x25x3 to local prices I get 76% which would make 20x20x1.6 about $13.77 per 6.5m length.

G'day Mark,
When you ask around at suppliers, be sure to check if they have any downgrade in stock.
This is usually a lot cheaper and good enough for most projects.
It is usually availabe in both uncoated and primed.
Cheers,
Greg.

20 x 20
Probably a bit late but there is a mob in Vic called Robot Trading. They occassionally have specials on that size metal. About $12 - $14 per 6 metre length. Don't know whether they are in QLD but might help people looking down this way. Normally wait till it's on special then stock up. Hope this helps, might help haggle for a better price up north.
