I purchased the cutter pictured below with the intention of shortening the way too long shank to facilitate its use on my little mill. After six months of looking at the thing I sprung into action this morning.

I had toyed with the idea of reducing the 25mm shank diameter to 20mm to enable its use in an ER32 chuck but given the twin inserts, any inaccuracy in my handiwork would undoubtedly result in the cutter favouring one insert.

Installed in an ER40 chuck and cutting some 1020 dry at 600 rpm with a feed of 43mm/min and a DOC of about 0.5mm, the finish looked pretty good. I had expected a more smeared finish but the, I would imagine, counterfeit Mitsubishi inserts worked well.
