Default CNMG 12 04 xx horsepower

When doing roughing work on my 2HP Hafpos AL340 I normally use CNMG 12 04 xx inserts, and without trying too hard (3mm DOC fast feed in 1045) I can get the motor to bog down. I'm sure I could push the insert a lot harder if I had the power.

Out of curiosity, my question to the guys with heavy lathes is how much horsepower can a CNMG 12 04 xx insert take and still have a reasonable life?

A quick read of an insert catalog and some calculations on the back of an envelope would suggest well in excess of 20 hp could be used by a heavy cutting CNMG insert.

Note that I have zero practical experience in this area but I can use Google.

Thanks John, 20HP into an insert is quite impressive. I guess that's actually 20HP into a few square millimetres of an insert, which is even more impressive.
