Actually no Pete. I converted my 25 year old Japanese Toyo milling attachment to become my miniature drill press for PCB etc. It is almost the same that Proxxon sells now. I believe Proxxon bought the rights to the Toyo lathes and mills and drills when they stopped making them at the Toyo Special Camera factory in Japan. No idea where Proxxon manufactures now. Here some pics of my setup. I added the aluminum base about 10 years ago, and the 3-phase motor and VFD about one year ago. It doubles the top speed from 2700rpm to 5400rpm. I still kept the 6 speed pulley drive functional in case I one day want to use the mill head as a driven lathe tool (in the toolpost). The separate VFD is because I have two more of the 3-phase motors that I may use elsewhere with the same VFD. Here a pic:

The Toyo is a sweet little drill, I have the Toyo MD1 12,000 rpm and 8000 rpm speeds with auto on/off switch on the quill lever.. I use it for drilling PCB's but not so much lately. Getting boards made in China has put an end to much of that sort of work.
So BT, if you happen across a little Toyo Drill Press, I'd think it would be perfect for Jewelry work.

Hello Ray,
I am impressed with Chris' little drill. Very tidy.

+1 for the Toyo. The one I used drilled a lot of PCB hole layouts in 2.5mm MS for inserting machines.

Don't know about one for Beck, maybe more like one for her father!!
I reckon Beck might have gotten lucky. I just received a phone call from Peter McB. Peter can lay his hands on a small Ryobi which he reckons would be ideal for her work. And who better to provide her with some advice regarding its use!

Hey Bruce,
The Ryobi is a win win for Beck. She rang Peter and has arranged to go down to see him at his studio. She can't wait. http://www.petermcbride.com/ Peter's collection of absolutely stunning handplanes might be lost on her but the workshop tour won't.
Bob.
