DRO mod.
The cross slide DRO worked well, until coolant was added to the mix. I thought the DRO was far enough away so would only attract a few drops, and I was right. Trouble is, one drop was enough to send the reader on a wobbly trip and the meter went crazy. Back to the drawing board and re-do all the mounts and add a splash guard.
I made a couple of aluminium clamps for the bar using the vertical slide on the lathe and the DRO - dry. What a revelation, DROs are the ducks guts, getting to size was so easy. The bar is 3mm thick, so relying on the DRO, I machined slots in the aluminium clamps 2.9mm deep. No creeping up on measurements required, so quick, easy and accurate. Almost seems like cheating!
I also made two new end mounts and a splash guard. Works well now and coolant doesn't cause the reader to chuck a wobbly.
The aluminium bits I made have a few marks on them, when I'm able I'll pull them out and neaten them up a bit.
I bought a couple of right angle mini, USB adapters on ebay which were advertised as 5 pin. They weren't, only 4 pin so not suitable for data transmission. I have a right angle mini USB lead coming so hopefully it will be five pin as advertised.
