    Default Extremely cool toy

Had an excursion at tech today to a local heavy fabrication shop, they build heat exchangers pressure vessels etc. When we finished we walked past a stores inbound area where a guy was scanning some stainless flanges in - he showed us his 'scanner'. It was one of these - X-Ray Fluorescence XRF Analyzer: Thermo Scientific Niton Handheld XL3t

It's a handheld X-Ray Fluorescence analyser capable of detecting the presence and percentage of up to 28 different elements in metals, plus match the composition to a particular known alloy. Scan took about 10 seconds and gave confirmation that the alloy ordered was the alloy supplied. About $45k USD if you want one!
