The 10 quick change toolholders I bought from CTC tools turned up yesterday, they weighed 17.5kg...

Quality is exactly the same as the ones that came with the quick change tool post set I bought from Quality Machine Tools in the US..

That is quite good, but they use crap cheap grub screws in them...

Are your products any different from the low-end stuff we can get elsewhere?
    Is the pricing/value any better?

Because the large images on your site don't work in my browser (Firefox), there's not much to go on.
The new site does look much better overall though.

    To answer your questions Bryan,

Are your products any different from the low-end stuff we can get elsewhere?

We have been in the business for 30+ years now and only offer quality tooling for the price you pay, we can nil afford to offer 'junk' as this our livelyhood as we are only a small family business. Having said that we have been working extensively on upgrading our products as well as offering our customers tooling they can't get in this country.

    Is the pricing/value any better?
We are competitive, we are recognised Australia wide with returning customers from all over the country who consider us as their tooling suppliers.

What I would like to add in which that we offer that no overseas ebay sellers or even aussie ebay sellers and to a certain extent some of the 'bigger' tooling companies in Australia is that we offer not only our products but the service on them. Meaning we offer advise and sound knowledge, we don't just sell it.

As for the images, we are still progressing with updating images (over 1,000 items to go through ) but most if not 75% of the images you should be able to hover over and get a much more close up view.

Edit: Which images were not working for you Bryan?

Don't recall what I looked at last night but I just viewed the first 8 of the featured products and 4 of them had no large image:

One - I think it was the boring bar has a tiny thumbnail when you click on it, so that's 5 fails out of 8. The rest of them were still too small to see any detail. The hover thing doesn't work for me but that may be my settings.

Have a look at how CTC does images. All products have very large, very detailed images available so you can really see the standard of finish. Personally, that boosts my confidence as an online shopper.

    Thanks for the reply.

Actually looking at LPR toolmakers, it does look like the prices I would consider appear quite fair, at least at the brief look I had.... I know what it costs to run a business in Australia and I know they cannot offer goods for the same prices that we see ex-china or even ex-USA...

On the upside you get covered by consumer laws by buying locally that you do not get buying from overseas...

Thanks for your reply. They seem to work fine for me on my end? Just to let you know, the links you have provided are not the correct links they lead to nowhere.

Lets be honest our images are not to the quality of the CTC images and their predictably high expensive website, but let's remember their a massive worldwide tooling organisation we are talking with a large amount of employees and we are just a small business. But each to their own.

    Thanks for your feedback.

Here's where the problem lies. People compare Australian prices to overseas prices. It really is sad. It's why many Australian business' are going under the water. Our government is too soft on this issue.

To add to your upside you listed there, what about customer service? You can't contact your overseas seller directly can you unless your willing to ring them if they even offer a phone #?

This is the problem we are having, it amazes me what people do when something goes wrong, who do they turn to for help?.. Australian business owners like us or yourselves on here (which I think is great BTW) we don't paid to help these customers who have brought some cheap overseas equipment they have picked up. Had they brought it off us then that's where we offer our assistance all the way til the customer is happy. You will surprised by how many people we get call us up with issues like this and expect us to solve their problems.

I'm interested in what you consider unfair in terms of our prices RC.

I have just been looking at your endmills. I know the website is a work in progress but things like flute length, shank size and grade of HSS would be very helpful. I am also looking for roughing endmills, do you have these?

    Cheers,
    Ewan

Bit confused here Why/how are Australian consumers different from overseas consumers and why is it sad to compare the two?

Apologies Big Shed, I meant Australian prices to overseas prices. Hope that makes more sense.

Yes it does However in todays world, whether you view it as "sad" or not, the world is no longer defined by a country's borders. I know it is a bit of a platitude, but we do truly live, buy and sell in a world wide market.

It takes an Australian just as long to click on a US, Chinese or whatever website, to buy an item as it does on an Australian website (which probaly sells the same articles as the overseas websites). It has been stated ad infinitum on this and other forums but people no longer confine their buying to their country of origin.

So often it is not only cheaper to buy the item overseas, but quite often postage is either included in the price or substantially cheaper than local postage. I have also had items delivered from overseas faster than from China and the US.

So in order to survive, any Australian business has to compete with these overseas companies, be they large or small. One of the reasons that retail in Australia is in the dire straits that it is is that they have been very slow on the uptake re internet presence and selling.

Oh BTW, I am fairly sure that CTC Tools is not a huge company with stacks of employees, but actually a fairly small operation, as is CDCO in the US (2 people I believe). Yes, I have done business with both, as I have with your company.

Again this is where the government needs to step in and help Australian Business' out. All these 'Free Postage' offers overseas companies are offering shouldn't be aloud, make them (The Overseas seller) pay a tax.. we do.

I find it rather funny that I see Australia Post Employees waltzing around delivering 'Free Postage' parcels. Who's paying for this? Who gets the postage cost? Oh that's right the Government.

On CTC, I'm fairly sure they are branched over China and have affiliates which all share the same data and images etc they just use different names. But that's what I'm here for to compare other companies.

    Anyhow happy times

Just to illustrate the disparity the Australian consumer faces:

You list an ER32-MT3 chuck with 9 ER32 collets (about half a full set) for about $260 + postage say $275

A quick flick to Ebay, without trying to find the cheapest seller

    ER32-MT3 chuck with a full set (19) of ER32 collets $150
(and I have deliberately taken listings where I pay for item and pay for postage)

Brand NEW ER32 MT3 M12 Morse Taper 3 ER Collet Chuck Holder CNC Milling Lathe | eBay

NEW 19 PCS ER32 Spring Collets SET Range 2mm 20mm ER32 Collet Chuck CNC MILL | eBay

that is almost half the price.

I know that you will say that your items are better quality than the Ebay items, but I actually have those Ebay collets and they came in the same little boxes shown on your (vey small) picture and they are excellent.

Now, I assume your reference to "our lacks government" refers to the vexed issue of GST on overseas buying, so let's add the 10% GST to the Ebay order.

That makes it $175, I would still be $100 better off, and I would have a full set of ER32 collets as against a half set.
