Thread: Finding some flat wire

A long shot, but 4.5x1mm works out to be the same area as 2.4 (3/32") diameter wire. Can you roll down some Al TIG welding wire perhaps?
For small sections like that I go to (scale modeller's) hobby shops as they normally have a rack with various miniature metal sections. Most recently I got some thin wall 1/8" OD brass tube for my SG oil circuit. Pretty sure I saw flats.

Depending where in Sydney you are Edcon Steel supply 10x3 black mild steel,they will cut to length.

rafff, what scale are you working to, what size do you need the model flats to be?

I don't have a roller handy. But a hobby shop sounds a good place to look, somehow that escaped me.

pipeclay & bob - I will be using 10x3mm for the full scale project, at the moment I am looking for a reduced size section to make a miniture model. the model does not need to be to any specific scale, any section smaller and easier to work so we can experiment with a few of the details.

Try Armature rewinders. I have seen flat copper wire in some generators and starter motors.

Someone with a well tune guillotine may be able to cut 3-4 mm strips from 1mm? sheet. Whether cleaning up the sheared edges and straightening the strip will be too time consuming is another question ?

Electrician's fish wire, about 3mm x 1mm, is used to feed wiring in walls. Street sweeper bristles are about the same size.
