Gas Thread info needed
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know the thread size on an LPG gas torch?
What I want is a gas hose that goes 3/8 BSP to 3/8 BSP, but BOC sold me a hose that has 3/8 BSP one end and a thread that fits a torch the other end.
I either need to return the hose or get an adapter to go from the female torch thread to female 3/8 BSP and I cannot find an answer to an adaper because I don't know the thread, or where to find a suitable hose.
This is for my home made propane gas burner.
Thanks
Eric

Hi Eric,
This can be a confusing minefield. Too many standards that are almost the same... I'd hazard a guess it's 3/8 POL, but it could also be primus... simplest is probably to take it back and see if they have the right adaptor.
The Australian gas bottle standard is a 5/8" POL fitting.. POL is short for "Prest-O-Lite" and is different to the British Gas bottle 5/8 LH BSP
Ray
PS... Sometime BBQ places or camping places have a range of LPG adaptors of different types.

Ebay can sometimes be a good place to look too, as long as you know exactly what it is that you need. But there are quite a few sellers selling brass adapters. The Primus connection seems to be a popular fitting for lpg torches. Edit: some combinations (such as the one you want) can be difficult to find as I think it's to stop people making their own filler hoses. Filling a 1.25Kg camping bottle from a 9Kg bottle, for example. Never catch me doing that! Simon
Girl, I don't wanna know about your mild-mannered alter ego or anything like that." I mean, you tell me you're, uh, super-mega-ultra-lightning babe? That's all right with me. I'm good. I'm good.

Thanks for the reply Gents,
I will try GAMECO in Preston to see if they can make one up for me, I will try some of the camping places as well.
Nev, that website is one I haven't heard about before, so thanks for that. Unfortunately, the hose (which is exactly the type I want) is very low pressure, ie. 7Kpa is about 1psi and the orange gas hose I need is around 58psi
This is a difficult issue as our beloved masters in the government bureacracy (mostly a bunch of useless lawyers) want to protect us from ourselves
Thanks again
Eric

FYI
I went to GAMECO in Preston (after returning the BOC supplied hose) and they happily and quickly made a 3m hose with 2 RH 3/8 BSP threads for me and cheaper than the 2m BOC one.
One hiccough I had, due to me being a bit brainless at times, the POL regulator has a 3/8 BSP LH thread, so back I went to GAMECO and the guy there changed one end to LH thread for me at no further charge.
100 brownie points to GAMECO for excellent, quick, cheerful and fair priced service
Eric
BTW, my propane gas burner seems to work excellently, now to melt some Alu.Last edited by ericg; 12th January 2015 at 01:36 PM. Reason: added info
