    Default Hafco Model AL960B Lathe

    G'day everyone.

    I am thinking of buying a Hafco Metal Lathe it is an 1988 Model AL960B
    3Jaw, 4Jaw, 10" Face Plate, Live Centre, 2 Steadies, Lathe Stand with 2 Cupboards, Splash Guard,
    Any ideas on how much I should be paying for it? (It's in good condition).

    Hi
    A 21 year old lathe I would say somewhere between $1,500-$2,500. All the accessorys you listed are standard with the lathe when you buy it.

    I would be more worried about wear then age....Machines generally do not deteriorate too much with age, unless they are left abandoned...

    Have a look at www.machineryhouse.com.au you will probably find the price of a new machine there.
    When inspecting the used machine for wear have a look at the tailstock end where there will be little to no wear on the vee way and compare it to the areas closer to the chuck and if it varies too much have quite a few second thoughts as there will be a few thou variance from one end to the other.

    A new one is over $4000. If it is in very good condition I would be surprised if the owner would part with it cheap if he knows the current value.

    Doesn't really matter how old it is. Condition is what dictates price. Oh and of course how much the Owner wants for it.
    Nothing is as frightening as regret.
