    Bridgeport J head...... Yes large circular handle for the Z, not sure about special spanners, I can ask and take pics if there is, i see it at least once a month.

    Well that was the only J head I know of but whats it doing on a jig grinder lol
    It still has the grinding spindle?

    The grinding head is gone, just the J head. I'll find out what i can

    But if it has a large circular handle for the Z.... how can it be gone.........unless you mean Z as in the column(not Z as in power feed for grinding)
    I mean the big black handle around 6 in this pdf. You mean a handle down on the base?

    They'd want to go easy on it as a mill.. there is nothing holding the table down other than the leadscrew nut and gravity........but I guess the tables pretty heavy, I'm yet to take it off.

    Thank you. No hurry I'm not actually working on the machine ATM.

    Z as in the column Stu. I have warned the owner about milling with it, it can't be worse than the belt drive round column machine he has though, i hope anyway. The handwheels are geared so much i doubt you could feed the table fast enough for milling anyway!
