Can anyone help me identify these thingies
Good afternoon all
First time poster, long time lurker and learner.
I picked these two syringe type apparatus from a garage sale yesterday.
I didn't know I needed them until I saw them!
You can tell from the pics that they are some sort of syringe.
Stainless steel, very well made, beautifully machined brass plunger that does not need a rubber seal to pump air.
Index on plunger shaft.
I am thinking oil, steam, not medical or veterinarian, not turkey baster.
The tip on the smaller one has come adrift but some careful silver soldering would fix it.
I would appreciate the combined knowledge of this esteemed forum to enlighten me.
Best wishes
Mark

They look like syringes used to extract fluids. eg Stick some clear hose on the end, dunk it in your brake master cylinder reservoir, draw up the old fluid. Repeat until the reservoir is empty, then refill with fresh fluid. If you bleed the brakes at that point, it takes very little time for fresh fluid to be throughout the system. Can also be used to fill a gearbox after draining the oil if you don't have a more fancy pump. Suck up fresh oil from your container and push it into the filler hole. They actually look a bit small for the gearbox option, but just giving you an idea of the possibilities.

It would appear that the measurements on the shaft are cc's. I could be wrong tho. A total of 5cc would indicate a small volume purpose. I would say it would be a specialist application.

Not really Bryan, we used to do the witchety grub soup for the paddle steamer Gem at Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement and to make it legal, there were 6 grubs for every 10,000 cans. The grubs were puréed and and drops we're put into each batch that was cooking.
I do like Johns fork oil suggestion though.

Thanks for Brain's Trust assistance
Thank you to all who contributed to this.
I think Dean and John were close to the money as I had a proper mother's look at the inside of the cylinder and it is definitely for something oily.
Yes the graduations are cc's so something precise is probably correct.
I am not sure about 2 stroke measure tho- that is why they have the accurate metrology on the side of the bottle - isn't it?
I am not sure what I am going to use them for as I don't own a motorbike.
Perhaps I will call them something technical and bung them on ebay then I could get a few dollars to buy something I really need.
Thanks everybody
Mark
