The Steel Blues I wear don't have a steel cap , but have a high impact poly carbonate cap .
They are guaranteed to be as good if not better than steel caps. At least they don't set of the metal detector at the airports .
Just be aware that the steel caps are not the complete answer they can do some damage in certain instances
case in point :
A fellow who lives just around the corner from me has had all the toes of his right foot amputated just recently , he was working with a loaded forklift and was lifting boxes off the pallet on the forklift ,the operator dropped the tynes and got his foot .The steel cap punched right through the sole of the boot and crushed his toes.Strangely enough the steel cap was not damaged in any way either. Consequently he had to have his toes completely amputated as they were beyond any re-constructive surgery.
This is not the first instance I have heard of this happening either.

Lou
I was a virtual cripple in the feet department with major spurs in each heel. The Doc advised me not to have the spurs removed surgically as they often grow back creating worse problems.
My salvation came with Rossi boots, The ones I use and there are many styles etc have an air cushioned heel, bliss for me, no spurs soon after starting to use them, the soles last and last, I have three pairs, one for best and as they get three years old they become the yard boots. At 74 yrs boots are my main footwear and allow me freedom and comfort, just about to take my neighbors dog for a long walk, they work ie the boots for me.
Peter
I started with the Rossis about 15 yrs ago.

I ain't small 125kg all muscle of course and had tried Redbacks Blundys Mongrel and had nothing but back problems and bloody hell did my feet hurt by the end of the day I couldn't even walk up the stairs at home.
I just put up with it for a years just thought that its due to me being a big bugger but anyway ended up going to a workwear place after work one day to get some High vis shirts and the lady that was helping said that I looked like I was in pain asked me if my feet hurt the answear was yes.
She asked me what my size was and came back with some Blue Steels some socks and told me to put them on, I didn't take them off until I got home .
I am on to my third pair, I get a new pair and set of good quality socks every year and the others get used around the yard and the workshop thats how comfortable they are, the wife is a nurse and she wears the Female shoes and tells most new Grad Nurses to buy them as she thinks they are really that comfy and you can always take them back no questions asked if you don't like them in the first 30 days.
Anyway just my pure biased opinion.

Love my Steel Blues. Something I can recommend though is Wigwam socks. There was a post here once by an army guy. He told about these socks and how good they were. They got them as issue for ops in tropical locations or something anyway I got a few pairs and can recommend them. They make a million different types so you can find just the type of sock that you want.

I like smartwool socks. I wear Blunnies only occasionally. If it's muck or real wet I'll wear Ecco's, otherwise New Balance cross-trainers. Tried steel toes once, they were awful but maybe I didn't have the right pair.

Since I first read this thread earlier in the year I've gone to SB's myself and reckon they're the best boots I've ever worn. I used to buy Teva boots for the width of fitting and arch support but they don't make hiking boots anymore. SB's have similar fitting comfort for me and are only half the price!

My steel blues turned up today, and I put them on immediately.
The online shop that I bought them from threw in a pair of explorer type socks as a gift.
I am very happy with the purchase! Good comfy safety boots, great price, quick delivery, and a pair of socks from the vendor to say thanks for the business.

Tell you a funny story because this happened a long time ago. Well 8 months or something. I say I heard this story about an army guy so I have the same socks coming. EX SWMBO harrumps and sticks her nose up and walks out. Basically she is thinking and will say later that I am trying to pretend I am Rambo or something!
NO damn silly so an so. Stand on a machine all day you learn fast to look after your feet. Army guys are just the same have to look after their feet so when one says these are good gear it is worth paying attention to.
Besides Lisa McCune is in the Navy thesedays so I figure it is best for me to join the Airforce but no way they would let me get behind the wheel of an F18 so I might just stick to civvy street.

Glock I would really outgun you then wouldn't I. Wonder what the Payload on an F18 is. Must be good for perhaps 4 or 5 tonne. 4 or 5 packs and rapid delivery, I guess you could pick up an old one for $30 mill and I see the Airforces 707 refueller is being pensioned off too. We might need that. Delivery cost 10 G's a pack should cover it. Guys I know it is a lot of money but think how much fun I will have getting to to you. Mind you a pack of timber dropped into your shed from 10,000 feet might do some damage. Make sure you have the proper safety gear on.
