DIY magnetic swarf wand
I made up a magnetic swarf 'wand' today out of some bits I had lying around. 25mm SS tube, 16mm aluminium tube left over from the pool fence, some Delrin and 4 very strong magnets with holes in them.
It does a great job of picking up the swarf lying in the lathe drip tray. Not so useful for picking up the swarf that is lying on the lathe. It tends to adhere itself very firmly to the lathe in preference to the swarf. I think it was worth the minimal effort to make it though.
It wouldn't pick up the brass swarf though. Maybe I got some dodgy magnets.....
Sorry about the blurry phone pics.

Nice work Chris.
I bought one many years ago and they are great.....just so long as you don't try to clean the bed of the lathe. Mine must be made with the same dodgy magnets you used, it doesn't do brass either....1915 17"x50" LeBlond heavy duty Lathe, 24" Queen city shaper, 1970's G Vernier FV.3.TO Universal Mill, 1958 Blohm HFS 6 surface grinder, 1942 Rivett 715 Lathe, 14"x40" Antrac Lathe, Startrite H225 Bandsaw, 1949 Hercus Camelback Drill press, 1947 Holbrook C10 Lathe.
