Hercus Lathe
My 1967 Hercus reason for showing is to next show the device I use for cutting brass tube using a dremel. Peter
The lathe I bought some 14yrs ago and have used it continuously, the Dremel is handy for so ,many applications and this was to cut brass tubing, the base fits where the tool post fits and was turned from 90mm turning aluminium with a plate of Corian, the Dremel is held in an extrusion manufactured to house large hinge pins on truck bodies.Peter

Hercus
Hello Penpal,
I like your idea, will keep it in mind for I cut a fair ammount of
Brass Tubing,
Question without notice if I may?,
Your 1967 Hercus looks good, Do`se your Headstock have Taper Roller
Bearings in the Front End?,
I have a 1940 Hercus which has White Metal Shells on the Headstock
Front End, and they are nearing their lives end after all this time but,
are unprocurable, {cannot be gotten}, I`m just wondering if I could get
hold of a younger Model and change Headstocks, Hence my question.
Best Regards,

Dear Penpal,
My Hercus lathe is about to come home, after 20 years in dry storage.
Do you know where I can get hold of an operator's manual? It's been many years since I had my hands on a lathe, back in Tech School some 40 years ago, in fact, it's probably 40 years since I had my hands around a women's waist, probably need a manual for that, too.
Regards,
Ken

John
Mine has sleeve bearings,in answer check with Hare and Forbes,Mick Moyle.
Hare and Forbes are in Brisbane,Melbourne and Perth,Sydney. Mick Moyle is in Sydney they deal in second hand Hercus and may know a fix for yours.
Look in Peters Metalwork Suppliers where you can click in to these sights and many more.www.peter.com.au/metalwork/suppliers.html He is amember of the forum and invites us to visit his site also he gives top clues where to buy metal etc, All the best Peter

Hercus Manual
Hello Neksmerj,
In answer to your request for a Manual on the Hercus Lathe, You will
find a link to a Full PDF Copy on the 9/20 Lathe Forum, Go to files
slide down to "Hercus Manual" and Download to your hearts content.
I did this yesterday and damn glad I did, The Manual covers the:
A class Lathe
B class Lathe
C class Lathe {mine}
Best of luck.
Penpal, Thank you for that link, I`ll give it a burl right now,
Regards,

Hi John,
New to this forum, I am having trouble navigating my way around. I can't even find the 9/20 Lathe Forum, to download Hercus Manual. Can you give me detailed directions. In the search box, typing in 9/20 lathe forum gets me no where, help!
Regards,
Ken

Many thanks to John and Richard for your help in locating a Hercus reference book.
Is this "Text Book of Turning" the same hand book that would have been supplied with a new Hercus lathe?, or was it sold as a separate reference book.
If a separate reference book, does anyone have a copy of the actual Hercus Owner's Handbook? I am referring to the old 9" model sold mainly by McPherson's, here in Melbourne.
Regards,
Ken
