Making hobnails
I need 80 hobnails to finish a pair of replica roman sandals and I cant find anyone who sells them... so how do you make hobnails? My only clue so far is to use some sort of nail bar. Ideally about 14mm long, with a domed head. Cheers, Xcam.

What about horseshoe nails?
.
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.

Seen these - making them would be a tedious job I think:

Hi Wood Would, the horseshoe nails are just too darned big for the job - I need nails not much bigger than a tack! Cheers, Xcam.

Hi Quasimodo, I've emailed Parfabrica.com to see if they will send to Australia. Thanks, Xcam.

It would be great Xcam if you could let us know how you go. A friend and I have been chasing a source of decent hobnails for a while without much luck.
Horseshoe nails are great or at least adequate for a bunch of stuff but we havn't been at all happy with them as hobnails.

Hi Weaver, I rang Talerwin Forge in NSW today and was told they will have hobnails next week or so. I'm ringing back next week to see if they have arrived. I'm going to try making some by cutting slim triangles of 2mm mild steel, holding tightly with my biggest tongs and heating the thick end red, then peening a dome shape - well I might learn to hammer weld while I am at it!!! Cheers, Xcam.

hobnails found!
Hi, the hobnails arrived from Talerwin Forge - 28 cents per nail (100 + postage = $34) and I had to grind a bit off the pointy end of each. They have worked fine and look like the real thing, so not cheap but effective!!! I needed 40 for each roman sandal. Cheers, Xcam.
