    Default Any ideas?

ive got 10 aluminium outdoor chair frames made from about 10mm X 25mm aluminium rhs, (DOG ate the cusions) im tossing up if i should take them to the tip but it seems a shame to throw out perfectly good chair frames. to buy new cusions @ $110 a peice its on par with buying a whole new setting, glass table included.

any ideas on what i could use the chair frames for? i don't have a tig so welding them into some sort of art sculpture isn't an option

i was thinking abot cutting the legs off, (all the straight lenghts) and holding onto them, perhaps drilling a few holes into a lenght for a screw driver rack

have i got some sort of problem going on here? but, i always seem to struggle with throwing out anything like this that could have another use, still got the tubing and wheels from the kids prams, even kept all the crappy screws and tubing from the kids swing set. when the shed floor was poured i was left with about 4 squares of mesh left over, still got them rusting away behind the shed (just incase i want to use it for something)

    Hi Kraits,

Melt them down, and cast it into something. If you can't think of anything you can always cast billets for turning.

Aluminium is relatively easy, you can do it with a charcoal fire, a blower and a steel crucible.

    Hi kraits,
No help with your chairs but if you have a problem I have the same one. I keep all sorts of junk because it might be handy one day. The boss says "why don't you through that junk out?". I say "Well I know half of it is junk. Which half I don't know". I'm currently working on a brake for my lathe. The cable comes from an old bike I've had around for years. Ok granted its worth like $3 delivered and I should have thrown the bike out years ago and just bought a new cable, but that's not the point lol. Get your saw out.

p.s. jusat to go a little OT. Ray does extrusion cast well?

good idea about melting it down, ive got a coke burning forge and a graphite crucible here, i did about 50 beer cans a few months back, the amount of dross was unbeleivable and it smelt pretty bad but, i did end up with a 25X25mm bar about 300mm long.

    Hi Stuart,

Should be ok I think, I've still got a pile of Aluminium ingots I bought a while back at $3.50 per kg, I forget the alloy designation, but extrusion stuff would cast ok, whether the casting actually does the job depends a bit on the application.

You could cast some lawn chairs....

Just through them out, and I bet you next day, you'll know what you could have used them for

    Default Mesh

    Bloke

I be using that mesh for passion fruit trellis. Get in good with your misses if you did that. Did that for my dragon, she don't spit fire so much now, and them fruits taste good too.

I'm not sure about Au, but know that British Columbia scrap dealers pay more if not ignot. Maybe donate to the local high school shop class so they can do something. They may be able to write a tax donation receipt. Wayne.
