    Today I learnt two things. Well actually more one thing and came to realise another;

    Firstly, don't be so quick to bag out your mill and accuse it of rigidly problems when in fact a sharp endmill will fix the problem!

    Secondly, a realisation that no matter how big your machinery is, you will always be lured into a project that is just outside it's capabilities. AND be forced into some really inventive methods to get the job done.....

    Since when did a truck stop being a machine..............or were you relating the comment to the operator then its still related to this thread as you learned something relative to a machine.

    There's an old saying, that goes something along the lines of.... There's more than a foot difference between, 6" this side of the cliff, and 6" the other side of the cliff...

    I learnt today that it is possible to get a 300kg saw off a box trailer and into the workshop without lifting it. Now I have to get it off the pallet it is on. Problems!!

    Nothing major. The cross slide DRO scale on the lathe had came loose.

    I took a clean up pass, measure, set DRO offset, and proceeded to turn with the DRO and power feed and feed stops so I can get on with other stuff, get within a 1mm and as always I measure and correct any error that may have accumulated in the process, huh??? that's not right, it should be 86mm why is it 82mm?....... oh F^%$K it.

    To use a Gasless Mig is not much different to a normal mig smaller more compact but still migs can produce the best Cocky shyte around especially when you haven't used one in over 20 years.

    Could that be called "I lash" or "E lash"?

    Today I learned that just because you watched a You Tube video on welding medium carbon steel with low hydrogen electrodes, don't mean it's going to be just as easy for me! My god. Sticky, crappy, spiken & sparken things! Im getting better but it's doing my head in.

    Here is another good sobering video on dangers of machinery....

    Real video of person getting caught up in a largish lathe from using incorrect procedure....

    You may not want to watch it, but it contains no gore and luckily the person appears to survive fairly unscathed but no doubt would have to have had some injuries although not obvious on the video..

    The young bloke was lucky. Thanks for posting this Richard. I had better show my wife and daughter which switch they need to turn off in case something happens and they are around. Unfortunately they are not around most of the time when I'm fooling around in the shed.

    Could just be the brand of mic Jim. Ewan and I have some Tesas. They go back together readily enough. Why, Ewan even gave his an ultrasonic bath!

    Depending on the brand and where you obtained the micrometer, they are sometimes accompanied by an instruction leaflet advising the method of adjustment and maintenance. Need one?
