Depends what you intend using the punches for. If it's accurate work such as marking graduated collars, stay clear of Young Brothers punches. They are sold in wooden boxes and the numbers are not positioned uniformly on the nose of the punch. If you use a jig to locate the punch ( I did) the resultant punching will be erratic.
C H Hanson in the US sell accurate punches. I have number sets in 1/16" and 3/32" sizes, both reasonably priced Ebay purchases and have achieved results I'm happy with.
As Peter says, Pryor are meant to be very good and often recommended in modelmaking texts. Another good English brand is Modelmark.
If you buy Chinese punches have a look for ones that have crisp letters or numerals. I bought a cheap 1/8" set of nicely finished stamps simply because I needed a larger 0.

i got some chinese ones from mighty dear a while ago and they mushroomed out on the non striking end and some even bent, the prior ones are nice, i was looking at the one with the interchangable characters, holds 7 i think but, when i saw the price, over a grand i changed my mind.
ive seen a few second hand ones on tool exchange, not sure if i should bite the bullet and fork out some good money or just keep buying cheapo ones and replace them after a couple of uses, problem is i will end up with a whole heap of Z and Xs

stamps
I have been using the Chinese set from CDCO. So far , I've had no problems on mild steel with them , they stand up OK and have been hardened by the look of them . As others have said, THE Peoples Rep of China stuff varies a lot, some tooling is Ok and some isn't .MIKE

This guy on ebay has Pryor Punches
eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d
3mm letters for $51.80 and 3mm numbers for $20.46
The 8mm size would be a lot more expensive...

I got a set of 5mm ones from the local tool shop. I paid $44. No identifying marks (so I guess they're Chinese). The case looks suspiciously like these LETTER & NUMBER PUNCH STAMP SET (5.0mm) | eBay - but who knows? Anyway the characters line up well and I've had no mushrooming. Cheers - Mick
