Rob have you read 'The Rainbow and the Rose' it is partially set in NW Tasmania?
    Mm.
Apologies for not replying earlier Metalman, I read your post, went back outside to split some more firewood for the winter, and clean forgot to answer. And yes , I am aware of the heat wave most of us are experiencing, in fact I eventually knocked off the splitting because it felt like I was swimming in my clothes. In Tasmania the heat will last for the next six weeks at most and then a few months later we will be looking to light the fire again, hence the need for wood.
To answer Mm, no I have not read The Rainbow and The Rose, in fact the only Neville Shute book that I have read is Slide Rule, and many years ago now, I watched A Town Like Alice on TV, but it was so long ago that I don't really recall much of the storyline any more. It certainly looks like I have some catching up to do.
I don't really know why I didn't look for more of his books at the time, after enjoying Slide rule so much, so I will now keep a look out for them. All the best,
    Rob.

    Hi Rob,

Yes I've read Slide Rule, many years ago now, but I was working for a Govt department at the time and it really resonated with me.

Nevil Shute wrote 22 books starting in the 1920's up until 1960, he considered the book 'Round the Bend' his best and it might be a good start as it is superficially about aeroplanes and engineering. It has an interesting twist at the end.
    Regards, Mm.
