Well, a big thank you to Phil (Machtool) who did a bit of an inspection for me and bigger thanks to Simon who bought and picked it up for me. The item was one of these -
Power SG.jpg
Although the one that was bought actually looks like this -
Grind 1.JPG
(There is only a small difference)
I have a Hafco BM450 T&C grinder in the shed but it has never been bolted together as it takes up too much space. While I thought I might do some T&C grinding, the main reason for it was surfaces so now I have the real deal it seems. This grinder is much smaller so once the T&C grinder goes I should be right, although some modifications will be needed to sort the motor out. I doubt it is original being single phase. From Simon's photos, looks to be an Eclipse 10"x5" chuck.
Brand is Power and it has a Repco distribution plate on it, so I would date it from the '60's. Seller seemed to think it was metric so maybe even the mid '70's?
(T&C grinder is listed in the marketplace)

I have one of those.
10x5 chuck is the correct size. I've managed to get a 12x6 on mine (because I had it) but the machine doesn't have enough travel to grind its chuck so it's not really sensible. One day I'll find a 10x5 and the bigger chuck can go somewhere else.
Mine has a 3 phase motor.

Well it's nearly time for me to emotionally detach from the short romance I have had with this machine and send it on it's way to its true owner...
Not that I have used it, not even plugged it in. It wouldn't be right. In any case it would just be my luck to plug it in and then have all the magic smoke come out of the motor! I dare say that if I had more time with it, I would be tempted to clean it up…
Hopefully it will find Michael in good nick and no horror stories will emerge about SG in many pieces!
SimonGirl, I don't wanna know about your mild-mannered alter ego or anything like that." I mean, you tell me you're, uh, super-mega-ultra-lightning babe? That's all right with me. I'm good. I'm good.
