I forgot to add, I just went to a friends farewell 2 weeks ago as he is going back over to Afghanistan with the Army. He will be driving a brand new mine hunting truck and goes out before anyone else doe to check for mines. He has been in there for 34 years but wont go up rank as he likes to drive the trucks.

Nice pics of a army Land Rover workshop trailer. There were quite a few of the trailers around on the surplus market in the 1990's . But ,they were sold without the neat Hercus lathe and the drill press fitted .. rats !

Typically towed behind a series 2A or 3 Land Rover .

Yes times have changed alright. It's easy to forget we have people going off to these countries.

I think a workshop based on a trailer is pretty doable, I got divorced a few years ago and moved around a couple of times, something like this would have been perfect then.

I've not seen one like that, they're awesome looking machines.

Hi Greg,
There was a link posted to that site on another forum of a combination machine that looked more complicated than that one. I cant remember all the features but I think it had more machines all in one.

I have always thought of a 40-42 foot pan from a semi. They can be had for $10-20,000 in reasonable condition and can be picked up by a towing company so no need for rego. This would give you a decent size live/work area that is portable.
Also if you have a mate that drives them he could transport it as long as it was not over any weigh bridges that check rego.

It could be backed into a drive way and your ready to go.

In the Army museum at Bandiana near Albury Wodonga, there is a workshop in a container. It contains an impressive combination machine of substantial capacity. Great museum - transport and artillery mostly. Extensive and well presented collection.

I used to have the Image Zoom add-on for Firefox which allowed you to increase or decrease image sizes - unfortuately it doesn't work with the latest Firefox version. When enlarged I seem to remember that in adddition to the treadle drive it showed what appeared to be an electric motor drive via a pinion and ring gear like those used on an automotive starter.

Anyone recognise the lathe?

That one looks quite clean and spacious. I could see it driving the more pedantic insane... this lathe was level yesterday.
