When I did my apprenticeship as a fitter and turner I did a stint in Simpsons' cast iron foundry at Dudley Park in S.A. ,carrying out maintenance.
They had three cupola furnaces , and poured a few tons of cast iron a day.
It was a hot ,filthy and noisy place to work ,at the end of the each day it was like a holiday to go home.
The scrap heap was a favorite with a lot of the "bower bird" types ,lots of treasures .

If that was me I would have kept the old lathe and melted down the DIY lathe.
