Monobloc clamps
I was leafing through an old magazine today and spotted an ad that I've been meaning to follow up on. It was for Monobloc clamps, at the time branded as 'Royal', but some thing similar has also been done by Mitee-bite and I think the current maker is Kopal, a European company.
They look like this -

and the insides look like this apparently

Does anyone have any of these? I'd be interested to know how well they work (are they comparable to the famed 'helix clamps' for example?), but also they look like there would be a fair bit of friction in there, so also how the bearings surfaces are managed. Specs say that for 80Nm applied to the hex screw, a 16kN clamping force is generated (as an idea of size, the golden block part is 108 long, 40 wide and 89 high).
