National Trades mans day
Its a promotion by a well known multi national tool company. There's a version here of what they doing in America and I presume in other places.
I would like feedback from those who have seen the trailer?
As one who has spent half a lifetime instilling safety and best practice in some of our tradespeople , I have a bug in my ear about some things I saw on the trailer.
I won't be specific but would rather let others view and comment if they saw what I believe is a an insult to tradies everywhere.
Has anyone seen the video trailer? If you have please leave a comment.

Post up a link Grahame! I love a puzzle!
I did just see a short Irwin video for last years one in the US. If the really cared about honoring the American Tradie that keeps the country turning, they would bring their manufacturing line back to the US. They should have filmed it in China.
Off topic, I always loved my Rooster brand tool belts. It was a bit disappointing when Irwin took them over. The leather, stitching and hardware progressively went down hill.

I noticed,
The girl carrying the box swinging from side to side instead of in front,
The guy drilling overhead without safety glasses,
The door is open on the grader,
The guy doing the Reo in runners (maybe steel caps?),
The guy using a screwdriver to remove nails
The guy wearing shorts and a 'T' shirt while welding,
But the biggest breach of Health and Safety is the guy with a Mullet. They should never be allowed

I think it was pretty light and she was moving it out of peoples way as they moved along

You can go overboard on the safety and rules get ignored at other times.... For example when you see politicians running around plants and construction sites... Do you see them wearing steel capped boots? They put on the hard hat and safety glasses, do not see them wearing steel caps though, and often without hi-vis clothing as well..
At a local plant the OHS officer was writing up the office staff because they were not wearing their safety glasses when walking from the office to the toilet... About the worst that could have happened is a bird could crap in their eye...
As I say, there is safety and their is safety.... Everyone is so scared these days because the cost of frivolous litigation is so high so everything is way overboard...Light red, the colour of choice for the discerning man.

screwdrivers were never designed to be used as chisel...
the use of tools in such ways by anyone warrants the term BUTCHER
these Butchers just make things harder for those who have the need to get something apart after they have had their little steel carving time
what has happened to "basic trade practice"

I don't know why but when I hear the term "Tradie"...it makes my flesh crawl! I like the term "Tradesman" or "Chippy" (in my case) but not "Tradie".
Yeh I know off topic, but I couldn't miss the oppotunityJust do it!
Kind regards Rod

Right there with you Grahame.
There is standard site PPE and standard practices to be observed.
When will people realise that accidents = pain + pain hurts.
I currently work on a mine site. The view there is that ALL accidents are preventable. I have come to agree with that point of view, every accident has a trail of minor lapses that lead to it occurring, the holes in the swiss cheese lining up if you like.
Sadly, with this philosophy comes a financial cost, admittedly one that may ultimately save a fortune in the future. Small business in particular finds it hard to meet the compliance costs.
To get back to the original subject, there are almost too many breaches to count and if this advertisement portrays the acceptable standard, then the last 30+ years have been wasted.

I did leave feed back for Irwin Australia at their contact email address .I was particularly annoyed at the guy using multi grips on a nut and the bloke Mig welding with short sleeves. Perhaps I did go a bit far suggesting that they find the advertising guys and use the pliers on a very different set of nuts.
The contact has a auto reply which said this,
[ Thank you for contacting IRWIN Tools. We have received your form submission and appreciate you taking the time to contact us.]
I don't expect anything much else.
Their US site showing the same sort of trailer shows a bloke using vice grips on a nut on a Bridgeport mill of all things.

Same advertisers perhaps?
