Neville Shute Norway
I'm stunned...
I'm a bit of a fan of Neville Shute, You know "On the Beach" "A Town Like Alice", but my favourites are the aviation engineering ones like, "No Highway" great book about aviation and metal fatigue, "Slide Rule" about the R100 airship and government incompetence...
I knew he retired toWarragul( actually it's Langwarrin ) and did a lot of his writing there... but did you know he published an article in "Model Engineer" on converting his shaper to a power hacksaw..
Nevil Shute Foundation—Title
You live and learn.. I bet that shaper is still around Gippsland somewhere...

Topical to us is the story, "Trustee From The Toolroom". A little bit of model engineering features in the novel.

One and sixpence for bolts, they must have been pretty flash bolts at that price.
Read some of his books, never knew he lived so close to where I was back then.

Thanks Jordan,
Heard of it, never read it, but just now ordered it on-line, If I understand the synopsis, the hero is the editor of an engineering hobby magazine and uses a Myford Lathe..
Maybe if should be required reading for Myford owners... Ray (aka wheelinaround) should get a copy.
Regards
Ray
PS Yes closer than I thought too. thanks Mick, but one and sixpence in the 1950's wasn't all that much, I can remember icypoles were 3d and a shilling for a milkshake...
