In part answer to Dale's question as to what paint, I've just ordered some 2 pack epoxy De Beer 400 series, although I'd have liked to get some Salcomix 525, it can be sprayed direct over bare metal, or over a primer.. mostly I've used Dulux 3d acrylic primer in the past, but something that sands nice to give a good base for the top coat, and doesn't chip.

Colour can be whatever you like, RAL 6011 is nice... ( In case RC is still undecided... )

    Hello Simon,

Thanks for that. They have a white paint called Whitecote and a range of colours under the name Hardnose. The problem with the POR paints is that (according to the manufacturer) they can not be flatted or tinted (to colour match). Pretty much limits there usefulness for restoration purposes.

    Hello Lather,

Thank you for the link. These paints appear remarkably similar to the POR-15 series. I have written to KBS regarding flatting and colour matching.

How is your paint holding up to continuous oil contact?

    Regards,

it's holding up well, it should as it's basically the same as POR 15 and aussie made, lucky i came across a thread about POR 15 as it would have been painted with enamel.

painted the lathe coolant tray with enamel, which hasn't worked well, even though i gave it a week before use.

Well I picked the colour today, have got the paint.... Taubmans "Star Gaze" is the colour.... Does not seem to come up on google... It is a white base with some red tint, so in effect it is a light red colour but close to white...

I was looking over my machines and I found my off white coloured milling machine seemed to be the easiest one on the eyes plus reflected light better then any of the others painted in darker colours..

So that would be 'pink' then?

PS: Taubman's web site can't find it either.

Yes, but 14 coats of clear later and it's "light candy apple red"

The actual paint looks to have come out a slightly deeper light red then the card.. It is full gloss white knight metal guard epoxy enamel..

The photo does not show the colour accurately as expected as consumer grade cameras and PC screens are not that good at colour reproduction..

I included a photo of the colour details on the tin, just in case others wish to also use such a nice colour...

Pink doesn't surprise me, but pastel does. I was expecting something stronger from our colour cowboy.
